World premiere performances

Sydney Chamber Choir is proud to announce that its 2007 season includes two new pieces commissioned from Australian composers.

Nigel Butterley is one of this country’s most respected composers and finest writers for the human voice. His profound spiritual engagement with the human experience has produced music of intense emotional power and great beauty.

Sydney Chamber Choir has commissioned from Nigel a new work to feature in the June program When David Heard: a contemporary companion piece to the music of English Renaissance masters Tomkins and Weelkes.

Paul Witney is a young Sydney-based composer whose work has already been recognised with awards from 2MBS and APRA / Australian Music Centre. His music has been performed around Australia and in Europe, and Sydney Chamber Choir is excited to be working with this talented young musician. Paulas new piece will be premiered in the November program The Heavens Are Telling.
