Choir bound for Spain
It was an enthusiastic and friendly audience that turned out to wish Sydney Chamber Choir Buen viaje! at its final Sydney performance for the year, in the Church of St Francis of Assisi, Paddington on Sunday 11 October.
In a richly varied program showcasing the repertoire the Choir will perform on its Spanish tour later this month, there was something for every taste. As well as displaying its renowned affinity with the submlime sounds of Renaissance and contemporary works, the Choir let its hair down in the second half, performing Basque, Australian and English folk songs and even, as an encore, a quirky arrangement of a 1980s pop classic, Africa.
On Sunday 18 October, the Choir departs for Spain, where it will give a series of seven recitals in towns and villages throughout the Basque region and northern Spain, and will appear by invitation at the Tolosa International Choral Festival.
The Choir thanks its loyal audiences and supporters who have helped in so many ways throughout 2009 with fundraising and preparations for this exciting tour. We look forward to seeing you back in Sydney for another season of fine choral music in 2010.
