Welcome to our
Dear Music Lover,
Welcome to Sydney Chamber Choir’s exciting 2017 season – our 43rd year of bringing fine choral music to audiences in Australia and other parts of the world.
This year we will be singing music by Hildegard von Bingen, Monteverdi, Buxtehude, Purcell, Bach, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Bruckner, Schoenberg, Britten and others. Cantatas, opera, lyric scenes and chant will be heard resounding throughout the Great Hall at the University of Sydney, a perfect venue for this remarkable ensemble of musicians to display their talents.
As is our custom, most of our soloists will come from the choir, but it is a huge pleasure to welcome Richard Butler to sing the role of Saint Nicolas in the eponymous Britten cantata, along with the fine young voices of the NSW Public Schools Senior Singers, under the direction of Elizabeth Scott, who will join us in this work.
Welcome also to Sam Allchurch, who will lead the choir in a sumptuous program of 19th-century Austrian and German music. This is unusual territory for this ensemble, but it’s a musical world they will relish exploring, and Sam’s brilliantly thought-through program will, I know, have wide appeal.
This is a wonderful concert series and I look forward to exploring it with you in the year ahead. And don’t forget to bring along all your friends and family – great music loves to be shared.
Best wishes always,
Richard Gill AO
