VERBRUGGHEN HALL
SYDNEY CONSERVATORIUM OF MUSIC

Trying to create beauty is an act of love.

Frank Martin’s Mass for Double Choir is one of the 20th century’s greatest works for unaccompanied voices – but it languished in a drawer for more than 40 years before the Swiss composer was finally persuaded to let it be performed. This was music so personal that no outside ears should ever be allowed to hear it or judge it; music that reached deep within the heart, to encounter the mystery of the divine. Inspired always by the perfection of Bach, Martin also draws on the eloquent, flowing lines of Gregorian plainchant, resonant Impressionist harmonies and the rich interplay of voices to create a work of exceptional emotional intensity.

Then there’s ‘secret music’ of a different kind, in the shape of a major new work from Australian composer Joe Twist. Now based in Los Angeles, Twist has won multiple awards for his choral music, and we are eagerly looking forward to unveiling his new work for you!
